A crown is a cap that is placed over a tooth and held in place by dental adhesive or cement. Crowns are used for several reasons: as a protective cover for badly decayed teeth or fractured teeth, as a permanent restoration for teeth with large fillings, to correct minor problems in natural teeth like spacing and irregular shape or severe discolouration.
Bridge is a combination of individual crowns served for more than one tooth replacement. Bridges are usually made of a precious metal. Sometimes, there are other non-precious metals used in the base for strength.
In addition to strengthening a damaged tooth, bridges and crowns can be used to improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and dental occlusion (bite). Gaps left by missing teeth can cause the remaining teeth to shift, which can result in a bad bite. Bridges and crowns help prevent this from happening.
